Yemi was sure almost immediately — sure enough that he was introducing Mary as his wife long before she’d actually agreed to it. She laughed it off at first. He didn’t. Turns out he was just ahead of schedule.

What followed was ordinary, in the best way: long phone calls, terrible jokes, one memorable disagreement about whose taste in music is actually good (still unresolved). Somewhere in all of it, ordinary turned into forever.
